On Tuesday, November 18, Rutgers University will host a screening of The Puppet’s Tale at the Alexander Library, followed by a Q&A session with director Suman Mukhopadhyay. The event is moderated by Dr. Rudrani Gangopadhyay and supported by several interdisciplinary programs, including South Asian Studies and Cinema Studies.
Rutgers University will host a screening of The Eyes of Ghana on November 11, a documentary detailing the recovery and repatriation of over 1,300 historic films from Ghana’s independence era. The free event at Rutgers Cinema features a live Q&A with the filmmakers, moderated by Ambassador Abena P.A. Busia and Professor Bright Gyamfi.

The 43rd New Jersey Film Festival offers hybrid in-person and virtual screenings from January 24 to March 2, 2025. The season features a Renee Maskin concert and a benefit screening of the film Bucha.
The Cinema Studies Program and the Department of African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian Languages and Literatures will host a talk by Professor Sangita Gopal of the University of Oregon. Professor Gopal, an expert in cinema studies and comparative literature, will present her research as part of this academic series.
The 43rd Bi-Annual New Jersey Film Festival features hybrid in-person and virtual screenings at Rutgers University on Fridays and Saturdays from September 6 through October 18, 2024. The event concludes with a live audio-visual concert by electronic artist Jim Haynes at Voorhees Hall.

In Nazarband, acclaimed filmmaker and theatre director, Suman Mukhopadhyay takes us on a visceral journey through Kolkata with an unlikely pair - Vasanti and Chandu - two jailbirds recently released from prison. Adapted from Bengali novelist Ashapurna Devi’s Chhuti Nakoch, the film stars Indira Tiwari and Tanmay Dhanania, and is a heartfelt exploration into the depths of companionship and the meaning of rejection and acceptance.
